Marketing Tools

The cruel joke is the writing you used to produce your work is
not the same writing you need to sell your product. Think of someone who writes
concertos trying to hang together a fifteen second jingle. In just the same way,
a writer who pens a marketable novel, may not be able to produce the letter
which gets that novel read.
Problem
 | No one is asking to see my work. |
 | They want a two-page synopsis of my 400 page novel. |
 | I'm an expert in my field and want to write a non-fiction book. How
do I start? |
Solution
- A Great Query
- You must have a great query letter. End of story. Most agencies get hundreds of letters every month. Hundreds.
Bold print, exclamation points and testimonials from friends and
family won't get a positive response. A well-written, concise and
professional query will. DG Writing & Editing queries have gotten positive responses
from agencies like Trident, Writer's House and Donald Maas just to
name a few.

- My Novel in 1000 words or less
- You've just finished your 100,000 word novel. You've got a query
letter. You're ready to hit the road running... until an agent asks
you to include a synopsis. A two-page synopsis. Yes, it is difficult
to condense a major work down to a few pages. It's even more difficult
if you wrote that work. However, the synopsis is a common
marketing tool for novelists. Many agencies want one included with
the initial query. More will ask for a synopsis or outline when they
request sample chapters. Don't try to pound it out the night before
and hope it flies. Include a synopsis as part of your complete
marketing package.

- Proposals that get Results
- Ah, non-fiction. One of the few areas where contracts are signed and
advances issued before the book is even written. That doesn't mean you
can just toss together a few ideas on paper and expect to walk away
with a check. You need a complete, well-organized package which
includes market analysis and a promotional plan. Sounds daunting? It
can be, if you try to do it on your own. Let DG Writing & Editing
assist in creating a package you'll be proud of. Or if you prefer to
do the initial writing yourself, I can help polish the final
product.
